What if I told you there’s a way for you to get advice from mentors (or at least from those you people look up to), learn from their hard lessons, and take away new ideas that might help improve your business or career? What if I told you, on top of all that, it wouldn’t be time consuming or cost you much. Cheap professional development — it is possible.
This kind of professional development doesn’t come from seminars or conferences (though those hold value as well), but from the internet. Blogs to be precise.
Many of the marketers or strategists I look up to have blogs. And most of them can be found on Twitter or Facebook to boot. I can say without reserve that reading through these people’s blogs has impacted my communications practices and more. Many times, I can translate their lessons or advice into my personal life too. Here’s a short list of some of the blogs I follow. (Get those RSS feeds going!)
- Seth’s Blog (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/)
Short, daily posts from one of the world’s top marketing entrepreneurs on topics that range from social media and marketing, to risk-taking and idea sharing. - UnMarketing (http://www.un-marketing.com/blog/)
This is one of my social media heroes’ (Scott Stratten) blog. Now Scott doesn’t always post regularly, but when he does, they’re gems. And usually quite entertaining. He’s also got a great list on the left-hand side of his site that links you to blogs he thinks are worth a read. - Brass Tack Thinking (http://www.brasstackthinking.com/)
Written by Amber Naslund and Tamsen McMahon, two leading communications/business strategists, Brass Tack Thinking is about making things happen. From ideas to tactics, this blog delves into work culture, presentation skills and community.
What blogs are your daily reads? Feel free to share in the comments — I’d love to add more to my list!
