This week, Scott Stratten (Twitter alias @unmarketing) made a stop in London, Ontario as part of his UnBook tour. I’ve blogged about Scott before, which was mostly on my excitement about his then upcoming appearance in the forest city.
So what did I learn from Scott — aside from the fact that he’s quite funny, self-effacing and downright honest? (Proof: watch his TEDxOakville video or one of his many UnMarketing presentations)
Here’s just a sample of the gems Scott shared with us:
- Remember to be present. Don’t be that jerk with a BlackBerry, iPhone, or [insert device of choice] permanently grafted to their hand. Put the phone down and go eye-to-eye with your client, co-workers, employees, friends, family – EVERYONE. Don’t look for the moment elsewhere, live it right then and there.
- Service makes your brand experience. Even if you can’t improve a bad situation, showing you care usually means a lot. I will always think more highly of a company that admits where they went wrong and asks how they can make it better.
- Be awesome — people share awesome, not meh. No one ever gives you a call or sends an email saying, “You’ve got to check out so-and-so’s latest blog! It’s so… mediocre.” No, people spread your content if it’s great and worth sharing.
If you didn’t get a chance to catch Scott’s London talk, you can read all about it by searching for the #unlondon hashtag on Twitter — or you can just click here where I’ve set up the search for you.
And since you’re clicking already, why not check out Scott’s classic site: www.nooooooooooooooo.com. Enjoy!
