New LDAP Settings in PD Place™ – Part 2

Estimated Time To Read This: 2 minutes

In this follow-up to my first blog about the new LDAP features added to PD Place™ versions 3.7.1 and 3.7.1.1, I’m going to explain what Key Mapping preferences are. This is especially of interest to PD Place users who are considering integrating, or have already integrated, their installation with LDAP servers, such as the Microsoft® Active Directory® service.

The “LDAP Employee Group Key Mapping” Preference

This field is used when the user signs into PD Place with LDAP authentication, and determines what groups the user is associated with in the system. This is especially handy to help keep information consistent for users and administrators.

For example, if the LDAP Employee Group Key Mapping preference is set to “CN”, and one of user’s associated employee group LDAP records has a “CN” value of “Elementary Teachers”, then the user is automatically added in PD Place to the “Elementary Teachers” employee group after they log in. (Remember, any employee groups looked up from LDAP as described above must already exist in PD Place, in the “Employee Group” value list.)

There’s a convenient, semi-automated way to sync between PD Place’s employee groups and the ones contained in the LDAP server, which I’ll describe in an upcoming blog post. Stay tuned!

One last thing to note is the process of looking up a user’s set of associated employee group LDAP records. This is controlled via an additional set of PD Place LDAP preferences, which I’ll also describe in future blogs.

Don’t forget, you can always contact the PD Place support team for further information about the LDAP integration features of PD Place, or any other feature, at 519.641.7727 or 1.800.650.8882 or by email.
