LDAP Settings in PD Place™ – Part 4

Estimated Time To Read This: 3 – 4 minutes

In this post, I continue my blog series on employee group LDAP-related functionality in PD Place™ version 3.7.1 and later. If you missed my previous blogs, check them out here, here and here.

Challenge

In Part 3 of this series, I mentioned PD Place installations configured for LDAP integration can also be configured so that a user’s employee group associations are updated automatically from the LDAP server once that user logs in to PD Place. One thing to remember is that if an employee group name fetched from the LDAP server doesn’t already exist in PD Place, then it won’t be automatically added to PD Place, and the user will not be associated with that employee group within the software.

Fortunately, there’s a way that allows an administrative user to “synchronize” the employee groups between the LDAP server and the PD Place installation.

Solution

First, a user with “Webmaster” (administrative) access should log in to PD Place. From there, go to the “My Page” page. Under the “Webmaster” section, there is a link called “Import Employee Groups from LDAP”, shown here:

When the Webmaster user clicks on that link, they are taken to the appropriate page:

This is the page that allows the administrative user to import in the appropriate employee groups from the LDAP server. Next, the user needs to enter their LDAP credentials. Once entered, and should the credentials be accepted by the LDAP server, then user sees the following screen:

This screen lists the set of employee groups available from the LDAP server which do not already exist in PD Place. The administrative user can then select the employee groups they’d like to import into PD Place. Once complete, click on “SUBMIT.” The employee groups will successfully import and the following screen appears:

Coming up…

Continuing this blog series on LDAP settings, in my next post I’ll explain a new LDAP feature that will appear in the upcoming 3.8 release for PD Place.

Don’t forget you can always contact the PD Place support team for further information about the LDAP integration features of PD Place, or any other feature, by phone at 519.641.7727 or 1.800.650.8882 or by email at PDPlace_Support@coresolutions.ca.
