Preferences Related to the Search Result Screen

Estimated Time To Read This: 3 – 4 minutes

PD Place provides a number of search features to aid end users in finding the in-services of interest to them. All of these search methods display their results on what is called the Search Result screen.

There are a number of preferences that can be used to customize this screen to your own environment. This blog will look at some of the these preferences in a little more detail. These preferences can be found in the “Class Search & Display – Search Results Screen” section of the preference module.

Course Description Cutoff Length

This preference determines the default number of characters of the description that is displayed. It is extremely useful when you want to minimize the amount of scrolling required to view a page. There are  “more” and  “less” links  (see below) which will expand or contract the description as needed.

Search List Header Display Repeat

This preference allows you to specify how often the heading lines are repeated. This is very helpful if you have configured your system to display a large number of records per page. The following screen shows the typical screen with the header repeating;

Display In-services Based on Multi Session Dates

This preference toggles whether or not the additional dates, associated with a multi-session in-service, are considered in determining when an in-service is to be displayed.

Normally, an in-service will not be displayed once the start date is past. Setting this preference to “YES” will result in the in-service continuing to display in the search results, up until the in-service is finished.

Clients use this feature when they their staff to still be able to see that the in-service is in progress and to be able to access the in-service detail screen for information and access to associated resources.

Show Not Active Yet In-services

This preference toggles whether or not in-services whose “date active” is in the future, will be displayed in the search results.

Normally, an in-service will not be displayed until the “date active” occurs. However, setting this preference to “YES” will result in the in-service being displayed  prior to the date active.  The user , however, will not be able to register.

This option allows you to advertise upcoming in-services.

Show Register Button

This preference toggles whether or not the “Register” column on the search result screen is displayed or not.

Normally, the “Register” column will appear on the search result screen and the user can click on the link to actually register. However some clients want their staff to review all the information available on the in-service detail screen prior to registering for the in-service.

This option forces the end user to click on the title link to display the the in-service detail prior to registering for the in-service.

Show Registration Statistics for Full In-services

This preference toggles whether or not the statistics as to the number of attendees and waiting list size are displayed on the “In-service OD att/wait” column.

Normally, the number of attendees and the waiting list size are displayed as show below.  Setting this preferences to “No” will hide these statistics once a class is full.
