Qualification Clock Hour Rules

Estimated Time To Read This: 2 – 3 minutes

In version 3.8 of PD Place, new functionality was added to the Qualification modules called “Qualification Clock Hour Rules”.

If you do not currently track clock hours, I suggest you continue to read this document since there are preferences which allow you to change the clock hour labeling so that you could transform the tracking from clock hours to points, credits or any other category that is applicable to your organization.

This new feature provided the capability for setting limits on the number of clock hours that can be earned for a specific qualification, based on course / activity subjects or categories.

The course /activity subject or categories are uniquely defined in the value lists and be configured to uniquely met your organizations requirements.

The following is a typical example of the clock hour rules that could be applied to any qualification:

In this example,  there are two course / activity categories specified: Ext Conferences and  In-House Training. In both cases the rule specified applies to everyone but, as you can see, you can restrict who the rule applies to by specifying the employee group or groups. This means that unique rules can actually be specified for each employee group if it is required.

In this example an individual can only collect a maximum of 5 clock hours from external training or in-services that have the associated course / activity category set to “Ext Conferences”. Similarly, they can collect a maximum of 10 clock hours from external training or in-services that have the associated course / activity category set to “In-House Training”. A individual can register and complete any number of  in-services with the respective course / activity categories, but the system will only allow then to earn a maximum as specified in the associated rules.

As you can see, Clock Hour Rules add a whole new aspect of control over what category of courses your staff can take to earn the required clock hours, points, credits, etc. needed to renew of establish a qualification or certification.
