WordPress Mobile for iOS

Estimated Time To Read This: 2 minutes

Following up on Matt’s post on the WordPress mobile app for Android, I decided to look at the WordPress app for iOS. I mostly focused on the iPad version, but I did play with the iPhone version on my iPod touch; there are some differences in the interface but it’s a universal app so the functionality is pretty much the same on both platforms.

Set up is pretty simple; once you download the app (which is available free from the app store) you will be prompted to enter in the information for your blog (just the URL for your site and your username and password); you can also add in additional blogs so if you have more than one blog that you need to manage, you can do so all from this app. Once you enter in the information for your blog, the app brings up a list of Posts that exsist on your blog; you can choose to edit an existing post or create a new one. In either case, you are brought to a screen which allows you to some basic editing to your post; you don’t have the same range of options as you would editing it from the website, but you can do some basic formatting, set the status of the post (Draft, published, etc) and add Images or Video (you can select an existing photo/video, or take a photo or video using the camera). You can also view comments for the post and Stats if you want.

Overall, it’s pretty easy to use and is good for adding a quick blog post when you are on the go. I had a couple of minor issues – as with the Android version, it doesn’t handle Custom post types which would be nice; and I kind of wish they had a landscape mode, but other than that it seems to work pretty well.
